Epic Encounters: Local Legends is a 5e-compatible box set designed to introduce a collection of richly detailed taverns and experiences into RPG campaigns. The set included new scenarios, NPCs, pub games, battles, and encounters, all built around fully realised locations with their own stories and personalities.
My brief was to concept and develop the overall art direction and branding for the project, creating a distinct visual identity and thematic appeal for each tavern. I designed the crowdfunding page graphics, and handled the layout of game components included in the box sets, including cards, maps, handouts, books and tavern signage.
Each tavern featured bespoke illustration, NPC cards, pub games, and battle maps, all designed to bring character and atmosphere to the table. Every element was individually laid out while maintaining a consistent tone and visual language that reflected the world and the taverns in which the characters reside.
For retail release, Local Legends expanded to include breakout sets that turned each main enemy into a self-contained scenario, alongside a complete tavern kit designed to drop seamlessly into any ongoing campaign.
Giving the Taverns their character
Each of the ten taverns required its own unique signage that spoke to the characters and potential dangers a player might face.
Each sign was individually illustrated to create clear identities that were used both within the pages of the games and the wider marketing assets.
